Erin Basler and Kira Manser are kicking off the conference on Monday, October 28th at 4:00 PM with their session, “Sex-Positivity: It’s Super Simple.” This session will get us into the “sex-positive mindset” by building a group definition of sex-positivity that considers all identities and looks critically at our societal framework for being sex-positive. The session will also be an opportunity to develop strategies for incorporating a sex-positive lens in sexual health education and identify talking points to increase buy-in within our own organizations and communities to support ongoing sex-positive work.

Erin and KiraErin Basler, MEd, is a Rhode Island-based educator and consultant. She works within the fields of disability, domestic and sexual violence, sexuality education, trauma care, curriculum building, pleasure, and human rights advocacy. She is an educator at her core but only because teaching is how she learns. Erin is a nerd who reads peer-reviewed literature for fun. By day, Erin is the Disability Outreach Coordinator at New Hope, a sexual and domestic violence services agency in Massachusetts. Erin’s current “hobby” is busting down professional silos through Familiar Education and Training (FEaT). Her hope, as the wrangler at FEaT, is to collaborate across industries to encourage systemic change.

Kira Manser is a community-based mental health clinician with expertise in gender and sexual diversity, sexual pleasure, pelvic pain, sexual health, and social justice. She is a licensed clinical social worker with a Master’s in Education in Human Sexuality. She served for four years as the Clinical Director of The Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health before starting her own private practice. She also started the professional development program at The Mazzoni Center in Philadelphia to educate professionals about LGTBQ+ topics, as well as founded and ran the sex education collaborative, ScrewSmart, from 2009-2014. Energetic and friendly, Kira strives to create spaces that challenge and support individuals to explore gender and sexuality by using active methods and affirming and feminist informed therapeutic modalities.
