Healthy Teen Network is pleased to announce Judith Herrman, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF, as the 2019 Douglas B. Kirby Researcher of the Year, in honor of her contributions as a nurse, educator, and researcher to the needs of young people.

Judy is an advocate for youth locally and nationally. She has worked with and for teens and young adults to address supporting teen mothers, teen sexual decision-making, school-based health centers, sexuality education, prevention of teen dating violence, and access to reproductive health services. Judy served on the Delaware Teen Pregnancy Prevention Advisory Board, Delaware Senate Task for the Prevention of Teen Dating Violence, Delaware Girls Initiative, and various roles with the Delaware Adolescent Program (DAPI).

Judy currently serves as secretary of the Delaware School Based Health Alliance and is on the Wilmington Teen Pregnancy Coalition. Judy was on the Board of Directors of the Healthy Teen Network for six years and worked on the public policy committee for over ten years.

Judy retired from the School of Nursing at the University of Delaware (UD) after 26 years of teaching and research. UD conferred Judy with her BSN, MS, and PhD in Urban Affairs and Public Policy. Judy published more than 100 publications, wrote three books, and speaks nationally and internationally about youth development, nursing education, adolescent sexual decision-making, and intimate partner violence.

Healthy Teen Network will present Judy Herrman with the Douglas B. Kirby Researcher of the Year award at our national conference on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, during the awards luncheon at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel.
