We are delighted to release a resource for school districts wanting to use the Getting to Outcomes® (GTO) framework for selecting, adapting, and evaluating teen pregnancy prevention programs. It’s called Making Evidence-Based Sexual Health Education Work in Schools: A Companion to the Promoting Science-Based Approaches to Teen Pregnancy Prevention Using the Getting to Outcomes (PSBA-GTO) Manual, also known as MESHEWS.
This resource, produced with input from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) and the CDC Division of Reproductive Health (DRH), came about as an effort to provide more tailored GTO guidance for people working in school settings, who often struggle to implement teen pregnancy prevention programs due to constraints on time, competing priorities, and the need to fit their programs into existing standards and policies.
MESHEWS shows how schools can use PSBA-GTO to
- Use data to prioritize where to implement programs,
- Assess district and school readiness and capacity,
- Use evidence to select and adapt curricula,
- Align programs with school priorities, policies, laws, and standards;
- Engage stakeholders, and
- Develop a realistic plan to measure success.
