Get to know the #HealthyTeen19 Featured Speakers:
On Tuesday, October 29th, keynote speaker Dr. Donna Oriowo will remind us that when it comes to sex ed, the one size fits all technique is about as old as a black and white television in a world where melanin is poppin’ and wants to be seen in its full color. In her session, “Melanin Poppin’: Colorblind Politics Plaguing Sexuality Education,” Dr. Donna will discuss awareness and integration of cultural and racial differences in sexuality education, with an emphasis on Black female sexuality for sex education that is truly intersectional, relevant, and more than diversity lip service.
Dr. Donna Oriowo (Oreo-Whoa!) is an international speaker, clinically licensed social worker, sex and relationship educator, and therapist located in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Dr. Donna is the owner and lead therapist of AnnodRight, whose mission is to bring the intersection of sex, sexuality, culture, race, hair texture, skin tone, et cetera into not only the therapy office, but all of her work. Dr. Donna is dedicated to helping others reclaim their sexuality, identity, and self-love with an emphasis on addressing mental health, intersectionality, culture, and race in both educational and therapeutic settings. As the author of Cocoa Butter & Hair Grease: A Self Love Journey Through Hair and Skin, this is important because to her, Black Sexuality Matters, especially Black Female Sexuality.
Dr. Oriowo currently serves as part of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee with AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists) and is a member of WOCSHN (Women of Color Sexual Health Network). She can be found on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @Annodright, or you can visit her (day or night) at www.AnnodRight.com.
